Hypnotherapy for Public Speaking in Northumberland

Does the thought of speaking in front of a group of people fill you with dread? The fear of public speaking is a form of social phobia and is therefore irrational…most people will acknowledge that, however for the sufferer it is so very real.

The majority of people will be aware of a slight level of unease or nervousness when talking in front of an audience but, for some, it can lead to high levels of anxiety and can be debilitating.

A phobia of public speaking can prevent people reaching their full potential. Applying for jobs or putting themselves forward for promotion can be daunting for some people. While the fear of delivering a presentation may leave others feeling anxious.

Maybe you are a Groom or a Best Man dreading having to deliver a wedding speech, aware that all eyes in the room will be looking at you and over shadowing what should be a joyous day.

Physical symptoms of this phobia can present in the following ways:

  • Clammy palms

  • Dry mouth

  • Feeling Nauseous

  • Blushing

  • Stuttering or Stammering

In addition to symptoms, there are also triggers that may induce this fear and anxiety including:

  • Fear of looking foolish – what if I experience “stage fright”? I am standing in front of a group and when I open my mouth to begin to speak, no words come out.

  • Feeling of inadequacy… feeling as though other people are better at putting their point across. As well as being concerned about use of vocabulary.

  • Lack of confidence and low self esteem originates often from the belief that others are better speakers and/or more knowledgeable about the subject being discussed.
